I had fully intended to do “something with horses”.

Having been told this was an utter waste of time, I started University intent on being able to graduate with a high enough grade to get into Veterinary school. I ended up taking a shine to all the business modules and turned out to be pretty brilliant at it (a change after struggling at school)! Assuming Accountancy jobs would be much the same as all the business strategy & planning modules at University, off I went on my merry way, securing myself a place on an Accountancy graduate scheme.

It was on my first day that I realised I had 3 years, 450 days of work experience and 15 Accountancy exams to complete. The horror.

Luckily, I passed everything with flying colours and really enjoyed learning how businesses were grown, operated, sold, purchased and taxed. Even more so when I found out what everyone did with their money… investing in property, shares, moving abroad, saving for their retirement, children, building pensions.

I was at a BIG accountancy firm (suits, ties etc) with substantial clients who already had a good idea of what they were doing. The knowledge I was gaining didn’t seem to be readily available for people that wanted to learn and grow; it wasn’t explained in a way that was understandable. I wanted to make the information more accessible so people could make informed decisions and achieve their goals…
